School Vision
Courageous learners,
Caring people.
From the Principal
Dear parents and caregivers,
Welcome back to the final term for 2023. We have an exciting array of activities planned for this term including the Madeley Cup, Remembrance Day, student leadership speeches and selections, camps and excursions, Madeley’s Got Talent, end of year reports and Year 6 graduation. We look forward to a fun and productive final term for the year.
2024 Student Leaders
It is that time of year again when our Year 5 students begin the process of nominating for leadership roles and preparing their speeches. Mrs Clark spoke with the Year 5s yesterday regarding the expectations for each leadership role, and students can take home Nomination forms today. We ask that parents discuss the importance and responsibilities of each role, ensuring students understand they are electing to be a leader for the full year, outlining all that the role entails as stated on the nomination forms. Parents are required to approve and sign their child’s nomination forms prior to students returning them to school.
- Nominations are due 10th Nov and to be placed in the box in the front office.
- Speeches will be held on the 16th and 17th These are to be 2-3 minutes long.
Madeley’s Got Talent
MGT will be held on 6th December. Student should be busy planning and rehearsing their acts, as auditions will be held on the 14th November. Registration Forms can be found in the library and are due in by 9th November.
Students Leaving at the end of the school year
It is of critical importance for us to be informed if a student is leaving as small changes to our student numbers can make a big difference to the way we structure our classes for the following year. Therefore, if your child is leaving the school, could you please send us an email at Madeley.PS@education.wa.edu.au or inform your child’s class teacher as soon as possible. Thank you.
World Teachers’ Day: Last week we celebrated World Teachers’ Day.
The following is a quote I love; "An educator takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart. “
I would like to thank and acknowledge all of our teachers and education assistants for their dedication, effort, their time and unwavering commitment to enhancing the social, emotional and academic outcomes for all students at Madeley PS. We thank and applaud you all!
Early Arrivers
Please remember students are not to be arriving at school before 8.00am. All students who are at school before the classroom doors open at 8.20am MUST wait at the office being supervised by school staff, even if waiting with a parent. No students should be within the Early Childhood grounds or within the alcoves of the school until the classroom doors are open.
Madeley PS Dress Code
Madeley Primary School has a community endorsed dress code that, in accordance with the School Education Act of 1999, ALL students are to conform with unless otherwise directed. The cooperation of parents is sought in setting and maintaining a high standard of dress, appearance and cleanliness from their child by ensuring that they conform to the Dress Code. The Dress Code also promotes a positive image of the school by ensuring a high standard of presentation.
Navy shorts, leggings, skorts or skirts are to be worn with the Madeley PS shirt, jumper, jacket.
Other general requirements are:
- Clothing which has advertising or denim is not permitted.
- Make-up and jewellery are not appropriate.
- Single plain studs or sleepers may be worn in the earlobes.
- Long hair should be tied back for health and safety reasons.
- Thongs, slides, backless sandals and other forms of open footwear must not be worn.
- A school bucket/broad-brimmed hat must be worn whenever working or playing outside.
Year 3 Parent Session – 1-to-1 Program Information Session
The information session for the 1-to-1 program for parents of student’s in Year 4 2024, will be held in the library on 7th Nov at 4pm.
Planning for 2023
We are starting the process of planning classes and classroom structures for next year. If your child will be leaving Madeley Primary by the end of 2023, please advise the school office as soon as possible by emailing madeley.ps@education.wa.edu.au or 9306 6900.
Student enrolments determine what our staffing allocation will be, so we need to be accurate in our planning. This term we will begin planning classes for 2024. Considerations for how classes are formed include:
- structures based on enrolment numbers per year level and recommended class sizes. Classes are then constructed to maintain a gender balance and an even distribution of student needs/abilities in each class.
- We aim to maintain at least one friendship for each child.
- Composite classes are an inevitability, of which we have no control. Students are not disadvantaged by such arrangements. The same class selection approach is taken in these classes as with all others. We do try our best to avoid repeated years in composite classes, where possible.
The process we use:
- A draft class structure is created based on student enrolment numbers.
- Staff meet to discuss and allocate students to draft classes, consideration is given to:
- Student academic needs
- Student behavioural needs
- Student social needs
- Gender balance
- Previous placement in composite class
- Parent requests, based on specific educational need
- Admin review draft classes and meet with staff to clarify, modify, confirm classes.
- Staff meet to discuss final placements (this may involve multiple meetings)
- Classes will be displayed for parents on Connect. This information is posted on Tuesday 30th Jan 2024 as there is often a review of class structures when staff return in the new year and a restructure of classes could take place.
Requests related to class placement
If there is a matter, relating to your child’s specific learning needs, that you would like the school leadership team to consider in relation to classroom placements, you may submit a request in writing. Please note that we do not take requests for particular classroom teachers, nor for classroom makeup (ie split classes). Submissions should be emailed before the end of Week 6 – Friday,17th November. Requests received after this time will not be considered. I would like to assure all families that we go to great lengths to structure classes to meet the needs of every student. This is a complex process that is given a great deal of time and effort.
Open Board Meeting
Our next Board meeting is an open board meeting whereby any parents who are not board members are welcome to join us. It is held in the staffroom at 5:30pm on Wednesday 29 Nov.
Long Service Leave
I am fortunate enough to be ending my 2023 school year a little early, accessing Long Service Leave and heading off on a trip to Europe with my family for the Christmas break. My last week at school will be Week 6. Mrs Reeves will be Acting Principal during this time.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our Year 6 students a fabulous end to their primary schooling, and fabulous Graduation. It has been a pleasure getting to know you all and I wish you all every success in your transition to High School next year.
I hope all Madeley PS students and families have a safe and happy holiday break and look forward to a fantastic 2024.

2023 Interschool Cross Country
Congratulations to our Interschool Cross Country team who finished 4th overall out of seven schools. Even though it was a hot day, all our competitors strived for their personal best and completed the challenging course. Well done to all our students.

Year 6 Camp
Another wonderful Year 6 camp held at Kerem Adventure Camp in Bullsbrook. Students participated in a wide variety of activities including high ropes, archery, zorb balls and an evening spy games mission! Everyone had the opportunity to challenge themselves with activities they had never experienced before and many faced a few fears and were proud of their own achievements. Students were beautifully behaved and comments from the camp organisers were glowing about our amazing students.
A great time had by all!

Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying occurs when technology is used to deliberately and repeatedly engage in unfriendly behaviour to upset and hurt someone. Groups and individuals can be both the perpetrators and targets of bullying.
Cyberbullying can occur in a number of ways including:
- abusive texts and emails,
- posting unkind messages or images,
- imitating others online,
- excluding others online and
- inappropriate image tagging
Cyberbullying can happen to anyone, not just children and young people. It can be more damaging than offline bullying as it can occur 24/7, have a very large audience and be difficult to escape. It can invade a young persons social world both online and offline. As with offline bullying, cyberbullying can have long lasting consequences and children need support to manage this.
