I can’t believe how quickly the year has flown by. It has been an incredibly productive year with lots of achievements to be proud of. I would like to congratulate all staff and students for a successful year and thank all parents for their contributions and support to our school community.
Thank you also to our dedicated School Board and School Board Chairperson, Mr Matthew White as well as the amazing work of the P & C led by President, Mr Joseph Madafferi. We are so fortunate to have such a supportive and engaged school community who give up their time to support and assist our school in achieving the aims set out in our Business Plan. There is very strong research evidence stating that students whose parents are involved in their schooling, have better educational outcomes. I encourage you, where possible, to get involved with the school community, parent help, events and activities.
Colour Run
Today has seen the first Colour Run held in Madeley PS’s history. It has been a fabulous fundraising event managed by the P&C. The profits from the event will assist with the furnishing of the future Wellness Hub. We would like to give a special mention to Giao Valenti, Joe Madafferi and Adam Marinich for their hard work in organising today’s event. We have achieved more than our goal of $25,000 in total, of which the school will receive $15,000+. What an amazing achievement!
Madeley’s Got Talent
We were witness to some sensational performances by our students at Madeley’s Got Talent on Wednesday. Congratulations to all performers, from those who auditioned to those who performed on the day, as they were all very impressive performers. We had a three-way tie for third place, showing just how close the competition was this year. A very big thank you to Mr Townsager who has dedicated countless hours to auditioning and rehearsing all acts for the show.
The winners were:
1st Place: Jayden Tan
2nd Place: Wipe Out on the Drums
3rd Place: Eve Paterson, Sophie Cole, Lily Coventry & Aaliyah Bowler
Congratulations Layla Hutchinson
We would like to acknowledge Layla Hutchinson for her amazing talent also. Layla was recently the winner of a Lego Australia competition, receiving a trip for herself and family to Sydney as part of her prize. Her winning design of a ‘Robot Kangaroo Solar Powered Super Sleigh’ was turned into an amazing Lego creation which was unveiled at the Lego event in Sydney. Her drawing/design was also included as an illustration in Sophie Beer’s new Christmas book “Santa’s Summer Sleigh”. Layla was lucky enough to have a meet and greet with the author and has kindly donated a copy of the book to our library. Congratulations Layla!

Night Sky Night
Friday 22nd November saw our second Night Sky Night. The head astronomer, Rick, from Gin Gin Gravity Discovery Centre took our Year 5 students and their families on a fun tour of our night sky. The weather hadn’t looked good all week, but the weather god’s were kind to us and gave us a beautifully clear evening. This year started differently with Rick having our discussion outside and using his laser pointer to point out different things in the sky (Mercury, Orion's belt, and some other stars and constellations) before we moved onto the telescopes. In the telescopes we got to see Saturn and 2 of its moons, Venus (which was shining very brightly), Acamar (a double star), and a nebula. It was another great night enjoyed by both children and adults.

Layla LEGO Christmas Campaign
A few months ago, the team at LEGO Australia invited the winners of our Term 2 Big Art Comp, which included Layla Hutchison, to submit drawings for their ‘Santa’s Summer Sleigh’ Christmas campaign, which launched on Monday 2/12/224
A selection of these designs is now display at the world’s largest LEGO® Store at Pitt St Mall, built entirely from LEGO bricks, and the children attended the launch event . Additionally, some of the designs are featured in an animated video, digital book, and audio book for the campaign.

Building Your Child's Self Esteem Good self-esteem helps children and young people to try new things, take healthy risks and solve problems. Positive self-esteem provides children with a solid foundation for their learning and development and enables them to feel good about themselves. Parents can help build the self-esteem of their children by frequently doing the following with them: • Say “I love you” • Develop and maintain special daily rituals • Let your children help you • Let your child make mistakes and solve some of their own problems • Praise children for trying • Show an interest in the sports or hobbies they are interested in • Eat meals as a family • Seek out one-on-one opportunities often • Praise desirable behaviour (praise should be genuine and specific) • Correct negative behaviour firmly but lovingly • Respect their choices • Celebrate your child’s successes - big and small • Make your children a priority in your life.
